Similarly, the oil and wick, we need to have a very healthy
diet and lifestyles so that our health is maintained. At
the same time we need to protect it from other external
conditions which are the obstructions to a healthy way of
life. The preventive medicine is just like what you need to
continue the lamp burning here.
The preventive medicine is broadly and mainly
5 types. When to get up, when to go to sleep and all the
activities in between, all the rituals and treatments to be
accepted in day to day life that’s known as Dinacharya or
the daily routine. Ritucharya or seasonal regimen guides
on how to adapt this dinacharya according to the seasonal
changes. Broadly it deals with hygiene, food and activities
related to daily living and also a seasonal living. I think
one important concept of Ayurveda which is also accepted
by the modern sciences is the concept of bio-rhythm or
the chrono – biology. The changes which are diurnal,
nocturnal and seasonal, also influence the physiological
function like Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Activities, food and
other things which are told to be adjusted according to
changes that are happening in the nature are explained
in the first two chapters known as Dinacharya or the daily
routines or ritucharya or the seasonal routines.
Food, sleep and sex are considered as three sub-
pillars that support life. It is told that proper intake of
food, proper rest and proper spending of the energy can
