something that is non medicinal”. The story is about he
went on for so many days or months or years and came
back to his teacher saying that, “ sorry teacher I could not
find anything that is non – medicinal.” He said that, “o.k.,
your study is complete and you have become a complete
physician. Go ahead and practice”.
The concept that everything in the universe has
some medicinal values. What we, as Ayurvedic physicians,
should know is to logically combine them and then apply
it in the right condition. In the body these five elements
are known as Doshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha. There is
a saying in Susruta Samhita that like wind, sun and moon
control the activity of universe, Vata, Pitta and Kapha
control the physiological functions. Vata, Pitta and Kapha
- one represents wind, another fire and the third moon or
the cooling nature.
This is also reflected in each individual psycho –
spiritual and physical constitutions. The detail charts are
there in the exhibition hall. I would like all of you to go
there and assess your own constitution that’s known as
Prakriti.
