บทคัดย่อ
บทความนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพทางสังคมศาสตร์ งานภาคสนามเก็บข้อมูลระหว่าง พ.ศ.2556-2558 มุ่งเน้นการศึกษาสังคมพหุลักษณ์ในตลาดพาหุรัด กรุงเทพมหานครโดยเฉพาะกลุ่มพ่อค้าชาวปัญจาบที่เป็นชาวซิกข์ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาพัฒนาการของกลุ่มพ่อค้าชาวปัญจาบในพื้นที่พาหุรัด พร้อมกับศึกษาการปรับตัวและความสำเร็จในการดำรงอยู่ในสังคมไทย
ผลการศึกษาอรรถาธิบายว่า ตลาดพาหุรัดเป็นพื้นที่ที่มีกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ถิ่นไกลเข้ามาค้าขายร่วมกัน พ่อค้าชาวซิกข์เป็นกลุ่มใหญ่ ซึ่งมีปฏิสัมพันธ์ต่อกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์อื่นเน้นมิติทางการค้า โดยใช้สอยพื้นที่ในหลายมิติ การค้า ที่อยู่อาศัย ศาสนาและสังคมวัฒนธรรม เป็นที่ตั้งคุรุดวาราศูนย์กลางศาสนาซิกข์ของไทยและเชื่อมเครือข่ายชาวซิกข์ทั่วโลก ในขณะที่การจัดงานทางศาสนาและสังคมวัฒนธรรมสร้างจุดเด่นให้กับพาหุรัดในฐานะเป็นพื้นที่ของชาวปัญจาบ
ชาวไทยซิกข์สามารถดำรงอยู่และเข้ากับสังคมไทยได้ ลูกหลานเป็นพลเมืองไทยโดยกำเนิดและมีความภาคภูมิใจในความเป็นไทยเช่นเดียวกับความเป็นซิกข์ เนื่องด้วยสถาบันกษัตริย์และรัฐบาลไทยให้การรับรองศาสนาซิกข์ ชุมชน และวัฒนธรรม ชาวไทยซิกข์ตอบแทนคุณแผ่นดินด้วยการช่วยเหลือแบ่งปันและให้ความร่วมมือแก่สังคมไทย อันสอดคล้องกับหลักปฏิบัติและปรัชญาศาสนาซิกข์

Abstract
This article is a qualitative research in social science. The fieldwork was during 2013-2015. It is a study of Plural society in the Phahurat market of Bangkok with a focuson Punjabi and Sikh merchants. The objective of the studyis to explore the dynamic of the Punjabi merchant circle in the area and explain how they have adapted and adopted to successfully fit into Thai Society.
The results reveal that Phahurat market is a place where numerous ethnic groups from afar gather to trade together. The Sikhs are an important group interacting with other ethnic groups for business. The place is used in multiple dimensions: commercial, residential, religious and socio-cultural.Inthe market, theGurudwara, the center of Sikhism in Thailand, connects Sikhs fromaround the world. Their religion and socio-cultural events arekey feature of Phahuratrefered to as Punjabi-town.
Thai Sikhs have always demonstrated their willingness and ability to fit into Thai society. The newer generations are Thai-born and proud of being Thai as well as Sikh. As the Thai monarchy and governments have long acknowledged and supported the Sikhreligion,community, and culture,Thai Sikhs reciprocate by helping and participating in the social support of Thai society as part of their religious duty and principles.
