Swami Shantatmananda, the Distinguished Speaker from India, (who is
also the Head of Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi) Bhikkhuni
Dhammanada, the Distinguised Speaker from Thailand, Dr. Sophana
Srichampa, Director, ILCRD, Mahidol University, Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen and dear students,
It is a great privilege and honour for me to be here with you
today and be part of this unique annual Seminar organized by the
Institute of Language and Culture for Rural Development, Mahidol
University, in collaboration with the Embassy of India. Today also
marks the 40th Anniversary of the Royal Bestowment of the name
to the Mahidol University.
At the outset, I would like to congratulate the Institute for
continuing to take such initiatives which promote understanding
between our two countries at Institutional and people to people
levels. It is all the more appreciable as these Seminars are not a
one-time affair but are done with continuity and hold a permanent
value.
Relationship between India and Thailand have a glorious
past, be it in the fields of history, culture, religion, economy and
trade or education. The two countries have a splendid record of 62
years of diplomatic relations, which is marked with innumerable
