Coordinator introduces the Seminar
Dr. Amarjiva Lochan
Distinguished guests.
It is my great pleasure to introduce to you the concept of a new
topic from Indian culture which has been known to the Thai masses but
not experienced deeply. When I was asked by Dr Sophana, the Director of
the Institute, to prepare an academic workshop dealing with an eminent
personality in India, the name of Gandhi was the foremost in my mind. To
feel the magic of Mahatma Gandhi in this age, when we require him more
than before, I was lucky enough to get the consent of Narayanbhai Desai
who had spent his entire early youth from childhood in the lap of the
Mahatma. An ideal
par excellence
, Mr Desai is 84 year old youngman
who has been practicing Gandhian way of life. We are very fortunate to
see him amongst us today. The Seminar on Gandhi is equally matched
with the idea on Self Sufficiency of His Majesty the King of Thailand. The
commonality between the two great personalities of our time is being
explored and highlighted by a
symposium
ably dealt with by both Thai
and Indian personalities. The Day would have an Interactive Session with
the
two eminent speakers
on experiences related to His Majesty the King
and Mahatma Gandhi. Ladies and Gentlemen, we are proud of the benign
presence of Her Excellency Latha Reddy, the Hon'ble Ambassador of India
to Thailand and the Rector of the Mahidol University Clin. Prof. Piyasakol
Sakolsatayadorn. Their active support has made our Event successful.
